Rosemary Hills Elementary School in Montgomery County, Maryland, has implemented a mask mandate for all students and staff following the identification of three or more COVID-19 positive cases. In a letter to the community, Principal Rebecca Kennedy announced that KN95 masks would be provided to students and staff, and mask-wearing would be mandatory for a period of 10 days. The only exception to this rule is during meal times. The school has also distributed at-home rapid test kits and is urging parents to report positive results. Students showing symptoms of COVID-19 are advised to stay home and get tested.

The mask mandate will remain in effect until September 11, as confirmed by Christopher Cram, a spokesperson for the school system. Principal Kennedy emphasized the importance of students staying home if they exhibit symptoms such as fever, cough, or loss of taste or smell. Those who test positive are instructed to isolate at home for a minimum of five days, following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Montgomery County Public School system has also emphasized the "strong recommendation" for COVID-19 vaccination in their back-to-school communication. The mask mandate and other safety measures are endorsed by the school system's Health Officer, Dr. Patricia Kapunan, who aims to prioritize the well-being of staff and students.

This announcement comes after President Biden tested negative for COVID-19 and decided to wear a mask indoors while around others. This decision was made after First Lady Jill Biden tested positive for the virus and experienced mild symptoms. President Biden was seen wearing a KN95 mask during a recent event.
