National Police Week: In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
This year National Police Week will be observed from May 11-17, with the 34th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Friday, May 13, to honor the fallen officers whose names were recently added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
As we reflect during this week, it reminds us of the sacrifices our fallen brothers and sisters have made and to honor their heroism and courage. We hold forever in our hearts and memories four incredible FPD officers that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our community:
• Officer Todd Allen Bahr EOW: June 6, 2008
• Sergeant Roy Glen Wright EOW: May 5, 1964
• Officer William Franklin Mines EOW: May 5, 1964
• Officer Ellsworth Moore EOW: May 31, 1925
