On Thursday, April 21st, at approximately 7:00 p.m., a Vice/Narcotics detective was conducting a narcotics investigation in the 100 block of Wellington Lakes Drive. After witnessing illegal drug activity, the Vice/Narcotics detective requested a patrol officer initiate a traffic stop. Officer Sheffield stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Jason Cox. Officer Carr and his K9 Roxy responded to perform an open air sniff on the vehicle. K9 Roxy alerted narcotics were inside the car. Officers searched the vehicle and found 175 grams (6 ounces) of cocaine, ecstasy pills, cash, and a firearm hidden in the floorboard.
Jason Cox, 42, of Fredericksburg was arrested on the following charges:
• Possession with intent to distribute (two counts)
• Possession of a firearm while in possession of a schedule I/II controlled substance
Cox remains incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
