Starlink Satellites Provide Additional Broadband Internet Service Option to Portions of Caroline County
Residents of select areas of Caroline County can now purchase Starlink satellites to access broadband internet service. Citizens can determine service availability by checking the map at https://www.starlink.com/map. A clear view of the sky is needed to access fast and reliable internet service via Starlink. An app is available for Android and Apple phones to assist in checking the sky view for obstructions at specific locations.
The Caroline County Department of Information Technology purchased a Starlink satellite in 2021 to test the system. Initial testing results show this service is capable of delivering multiple streams of HD video as well as VOIP phones (neither of which have been possible with geo-synchronous satellites such as Hughes, or wild blue residential systems).
