Portion of Ladysmith Road in Caroline County will Close for Pipe Repair

Road closed 2

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) in Caroline County beginning Tuesday, April 5, to repair a large drainage pipe over May’s Run.

VDOT will close Ladysmith Road to through traffic between Route 638 (S. River Road) and Route 764 (Scott’s Lane).

Weather permitting, a detour will be in place for approximately eight weeks while construction is underway.

The portion of Ladysmith Road between S. River Road and Scott’s Lane is anticipated to re-open to traffic in late May 2022.

Detour signs will be posted to guide motorists around the closed portion of Ladysmith Road.

Access to all driveways and residential entrances will be maintained during the project.

The recommended detour route is approximately 16 miles and can accommodate truck traffic:

  • Route 1
  • Route 601 (Golansville Road)
  • Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)

Drivers are encouraged to use the most convenient alternate route depending on their destination.

VDOT and its contractor will repair a large box culvert to ensure the stability of the road and to maintain the drainage system.

Approximately 3,400 vehicles a day travel Ladysmith Road, according to a 2019 VDOT traffic count.
