County of Stafford issued the following announcement on March 2

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors authorized a public hearing for the County’s proposed new redistricting maps. Additionally, there will be a Stakeholders Group meeting and two public information meetings. These efforts encourage the public to weigh in on important redistricting decisions.

The public hearing and meeting schedule are listed below:

• Stakeholders Group: Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in Conference Room ABC of the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA 22554.
• Public Information Meeting – North Stafford: Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in Conference Room ABC of the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center. This meeting will be recorded and streamed on the County’s media channels.
• Public Information Meeting – South Stafford: Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in Meeting Rooms 1 and 2 of the Howell Library, 806 Lyons Boulevard, Fredericksburg, VA 22406.
• Public Hearing – Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Chambers of the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center.

Redistricting is both a constitutional and statutory responsibility of the Board of Supervisors. It is required to occur every ten years following the decennial census. The Board of Supervisors held multiple work sessions during January and February to consider redistricting map proposals developed by the County’s Department of Planning and Zoning and Division of GIS. The proposals were developed using redistricting software. The software provides integrity checks to ensure map options meet the requirements of federal and state law.

The Board of Supervisors chose map Option A, which was modified based on Board and public feedback to create map Option A2. Option A2 served as the basis for developing the County’s election precincts. The Redistricting proposal features a total of 10 new precincts. One precinct, Harbour, is proposed to relocate from the Griffis-Widewater District to the Aquia District. The County Registrar scouted polling locations for the proposed precincts. All proposed polling locations meet the requirements of federal and state law.

The public can view the proposed redistricting maps at staffordcountyva.gov/redistricting. An interactive mapping feature is available to help the public locate their proposed election district, precinct and polling location. Users must enter their address to find their precinct. They must then enter their precinct to locate their polling location.

The public can comment on the maps by speaking at the public hearing, attending one of the public information meetings, or online by using the comment form found at staffordcountyva.gov/redistricting. All comments are shared with the Board of Supervisors.

Upon conclusion of Redistricting, the Registrar will mail all County residents a copy of their new voter card. The voter card will identify a voter’s new election district, precinct and polling location.
