Scam Alert

12

Fredericksburg Police Department issued the following announcement on Feb. 4

This morning, our agency received two reports from City residents where a scammer posed as a Fredericksburg Police employee and requested money in the form of gift cards. One person reported receiving an e-mail from Chief Layton asking for donations in the form of gift cards. The other person reported receiving a call from a Captain stating they failed to appear in court and could make a payment to avoid being arrested. Fortunately, neither person fell victim to the scam.

Remember, the Fredericksburg Police Department will NEVER solicit payment over the phone or ask for gift card donations.

If you receive a call from someone in our agency or an e-mail requesting payment or a donation, call 540-373-3122 to file a report.
