Carolinecounty

Caroline County  recently issued the following announcement.

All work is scheduled weather permitting. Real-time information on work zones and

I-95 Southbound

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17)

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday, 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. Friday.

Single lane closures between these interchanges for Improve 95 project construction.

Wednesday – Thursday, 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. Mobile single lane closure between the

interchanges for Improve 95 construction.

Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m., Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. and

Friday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Saturday. Single lane closure for work associated with the

Improve95 project construction.

closures near the interchange and mile marker 128 for milling and paving the travel

lanes.

Stafford County

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound

Sunday – Saturday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile single lane closure on Route 1 between

Coals Landing Road and Garrisonville Road for milling and paving. Drivers may

experience a temporary rough travel surface until crews apply new asphalt to the

milled surface. Expect brief delays near the mobile work zone.

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound

Sunday – Tuesday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation on Route 1 between Riverside

Drive and River Road for bridge washing.

Route 3 (Blue Gray Parkway)

Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation on Route 3 for bridge

washing.

Route 1 Southbound

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single southbound lane closure for Potomac Creek

bridge replacement, between Potomac Creek Lane and Centreport Parkway

intersection.

Route 17

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile operation with short-term lane closures to

allow crews to conduct routine safety inspection of traffic signal poles along Route 17.

Route 601 (Forest Lane Road)

Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Alternating, one-way traffic on Forest Lane

Road between Route 3 (Kings Highway) and Caisson Road for repairs to surface

treatment.

Route 612 (Hartwood Road)

single lane closures on Old Courthouse Road between Route 1 and Courthouse Road

for Improve 95 construction.

Spotsylvania County

Route 1

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile operation with short-term lane closures to

allow crews to conduct routine safety inspection of traffic signal poles along Route 1.

Route 3 (Plank Road)

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile operation with short-term lane closures to

allow crews to conduct routine safety inspection of traffic signal poles along Route 3.

Route 627 (Gordon Road)

Monday –Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure on Gordon Road for

spot pavement repair between Chancellors Drive and Salem Fields Boulevard, as well

as, between Crystal Lake Drive and Lakeland Way. A flagging crew will direct drivers

near the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 628 (Spotsylvania Parkway)

Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Short term mobile operation on Spotsylvania

Parkway between Route and Hospital Boulevard for bridge washing.

Countywide Line Striping

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile operation with alternating single lane

closures or flagging operations on various primary and secondary routes in

Spotsylvania. Expect periodic delays in the mobile work zone for line striping.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be

wet and may adhere to vehicle.

City of Fredericksburg

Route 3

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Milling, paving, and median construction. Crews

will be milling and paving Route 3 eastbound and the center shared turn lane between

Gateway Boulevard and approximately one-tenth of a mile east of Altoona Drive. A

new median will be installed from Altoona Drive to one-tenth of a mile east of Altoona

Drive. Be alert for mobile overnight lane closures on Route 3 eastbound and in the

center shared turn lane. Work is anticipated to be underway on Sunday-Thursday

evenings over the next two weeks, weather permitting. When median construction is

underway near Altoona Drive, the Route 3 westbound left turn lane to Altoona Drive

will be closed overnight. Travelers can expect rough pavement on a temporary basis in

milled areas while work is underway.

Caroline County

Route 1 and Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)

Thursday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Mobile single lane closures, with a brief full

traffic stop. Crews will install new traffic signal equipment. After the signal equipment

installation, there will be a left turn arrow signal on each approach to the intersection.

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.

Route 17

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile operation with short-term lane closures to

allow crews to conduct routine safety inspection of traffic signal poles along Route 17.

Route 207

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile operation with short-term lane closures to

allow crews to conduct routine safety inspection of traffic signal poles along Route 207

between I-95 and Route 652.

Route 301

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile operation with short-term lane closures to

allow crews to conduct routine safety inspection of traffic signal poles along Route

301.

Gloucester County

Route 17, Route 14, Route 619 and Route 17 Business (Main Street) Intersection

Sunday - Wednesday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile single lane closure to install new traffic

signal equipment. A flagging crew will direct drivers through the intersection. Virginia

State Police will assist with traffic control.

King and Queen County

Route 33

Thursday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mobile operation with single lane closures for

bridge washing on Route 33 between 14th Street and Ashby Road.

King George County

Route 218 (Caledon Road)

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile operation with short-term lane closures to

allow crews to conduct routine safety inspection of traffic signal poles along Route

218.

Route 218 (Caledon Road)

Thursday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mobile operation with a flagging crew for bridge

washing on Route 218 between Hewitt Place Way and Lotus Pond Lane. Flaggers will

alternate, one-way traffic near the work zone. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Route 301 Southbound

Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single right lane closure on Route 301 southbound

between Roseland Drive and Barnsfield Road for bridge construction and realignment

as part of Maryland’s Nice-Middleton Bridge Replacement project.

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane

closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers

through each work zone.

 Route 608 (Igo Road and Muscoe Place)

 Route 610 (Powhatan Road)

 Route 645 (Springfield Lane)

 Route 648 (Winston Place)

 Route 700 (St. Stephens Road)

Lancaster County and Middlesex County

Route 3 at Robert O. Norris Bridge

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Routine, scheduled bridge inspection of the Norris

Bridge. One-way, alternating traffic. Controlled by automated flagging assistance

devices, monitored by a certified flagging crew.

Lancaster County

Route 3

Sunday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closures for milling and paving on Route

3 between the Richmond County line to Route 722 (Clark Road).

Middlesex County

Route 17

Monday - Saturday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile single lane closures on Route 17 between

Wares Bridge Road and Briery Swamp Road for milling and paving.

Northumberland County

Route 200

Monday - Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile single lane closures on Route 200

between the Northumberland County and Lancaster County line and Route 699 (Old

Glebe Point Road).

Route 200

Thursday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mobile operation on Route 200 between

Wicomico Drive and Golf Lane for bridge washing.

Richmond County

Route 3

Wednesday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. Mobile operation on Route 3 between

Heaggans Road and the Richmond County and Lancaster County line for milling and

paving.

Westmoreland County

Route 3

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 3 between Flat Iron

Road and Winter Harbor Road for paving as part of the Route 3 passing lanes projects.

Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone.

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane

closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers

through each work zone.

Additional Projects in

Fredericksburg District

Caroline County

Route 17 Emergency Repair

An emergency repair project is underway on Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) in Caroline

County between Mount Road and Ware Creek Road to stabilize an adjacent slope and

drainage pipe underneath the road. Route 17 is open to traffic, but motorists can expect

one-way, alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal, or intermittent

direction by a flagging crew. There is no vehicle height or width restriction in the work

zone, and vehicles of all legal loads may pass through this area. Repairs are anticipated

to be complete in mid-Sept. 2021.

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement

Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the

Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound

bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to

open to traffic in Sept. 2021.

Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River

Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge

on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction.

The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross.

The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.

City of Fredericksburg

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should

follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge

will reopen to traffic in Oct. 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April

2022.

Essex County

Route 665 (Dodge City Road) Bridge Replacement

Dodge City Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Beverly Run for a

bridge replacement project. The road will be closed to through traffic until early

January 2022. approximately 5 miles using the following recommended routes:

 Route 665 (Dodge City Road)

 Route 625 (Passing Road)

 Route 618 (Beverly Run Road)

King George County

Route 301 Slope Repair

Route 301 southbound near Route 616 (Washington Mill Road) has been reduced to

one lane in King George County for motorist safety due to the failure of an adjacent

slope. An emergency repair is underway. The lane is anticipated to reopen in fall 2021.

King William County

Route 360 and Route 662 (Sharon Road) Park & Ride Commuter Lot

The Park & Ride commuter lot near the intersection of Route 360 and Sharon Road is

closed through late November 2021 for a construction project to improve the lot. For

Lancaster County

Merry Point Ferry

A planned maintenance project to clean and paint the Merry Point Ferry vessel started

in early September. The planned 45-day maintenance project will temporarily

suspend ferry service through early November. The vessel is painted every five years

as part of its routine upkeep.

Middlesex County

Route 625 (Barrick’s Mill Road) Bridge Replacement

A portion of Barrick’s Mill Road is closed to traffic at Mill Creek through September

2021 while crews replace the existing bridge over Barrick’s Mill Creek. Drivers on

Barrick’s Mill Road will be detoured around the 24-hour road closure using the

following routes:

 Route 625 (Barrick’s Pond Road)

 Route 626 (Wake Road)

 Route 624 (Regent Road)

Richmond County

Route 637 (County Bridge Road)

County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due

to damage following heavy rain and flooding on June 11. A timeline to restore and

reopen the road is still under development.

Stafford County

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in

Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the

project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be

complete in July 2022.

Route 3 Business Bridge Rehabilitation

A bridge rehabilitation project is underway on Route 3 Business eastbound over the

CSX railroad tracks, between Cool Springs Road and Chatham Heights Road. A single

lane is closed continuously on weekdays, beginning on Mondays at 6 a.m. through 8

p.m. Fridays. All lanes are open on weekends. This week, the closure will begin at

noon Tuesday, Sept. 7, due to the Labor Day holiday. The weekday lane closure is

anticipated to be required through January 2022.

Spotsylvania County

Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane

interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to

four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive

intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be

added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

Town of West Point and New Kent County

Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)

Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane

closure is in place. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair

grout on the bridge.

Westmoreland County

Route 3 Passing Lanes

Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes

over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a

four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of

Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will

be complete in late Dec. 2021.
