Spotsylvania County issued the following announcement on Sept. 21
The Spotsylvania County Community Engagement & Tourism Department marks the county's 300th Anniversary during a celebration Saturday, September 25, 2021, in the Historic Courthouse District beginning at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend and enjoy live entertainment, food trucks, children’s crafts and activities, a "Living History Lawn," craft vendors, Fire & Rescue interactive displays, Sheriff’s Office safety demonstrations and a “Happy Birthday Spotsy” Party Zone! Admission is free and there’s fun for the whole family as we celebrate everything special and unique to Spotsylvania’s past, present & future.
Dive into the history of Spotsylvania County as you immerse yourself in the "Living History Lawn" at the Historic Courthouse. Experience exclusive photo ops with re-enactors from the Civil War, Colonial 1800's, and 1920’s, while listening to the Proclamation that founded Spotsylvania County read by Governor Alexander Spotswood himself! Tour the Historic Courthouse and the 1855 Jail, or learn about African-American history from the 23rd United States Colored Troops and John J. Wright Educational and Cultural Center.
Located behind Spotsylvania Elementary, the “Happy Birthday Spotsy” Party Zone will feature an array of children’s games and activities including a tie-dye station, do-it-yourself mini-time capsules, create-your-own party shakers, a birthday card station and so much more. Bust a move as DJ Rick Hamm provides great party music, and dazzle the crowd with a free face painting or balloon animal! Don't forget to check out the many craft vendors offering unique gifts with a local touch!
As the evening winds down, be sure to catch the Time Capsule Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. and visit one of the many food trucks on-site to grab a tasty dinner before finding a seat to watch the brilliant fireworks display, starting at approximately 8 p.m.
Avoid traffic and be one of the first out of the event by taking a free shuttle bus from Courtland High School to the Historic Courthouse (masks are required on shuttle buses). Five dollar ($5) parking can be found in the Courthouse Village at the corner of Brock Road and Courthouse Road. All donations support the Spotsylvania High School Athletic Boosters. A free trolley will run from the Merchants Square Building to the Historic Courthouse. Limited, free parking can be found at the Public Safety Building located on Dean Ridings Lane.
