Stafford County Public Schools has announced a community-wide 3-D art contest in collaboration with the R-Board. The initiative invites student artists to create sculptures that promote anti-littering and recycling.

All entries for the contest must be made from materials typically discarded as trash or recyclable. According to Stafford County Public Schools, submissions should be handed to school art teachers by Wednesday, January 21, 2026, or delivered directly to Colonial Forge High School on Friday, January 23, between 3 and 6 p.m. Students wishing to retain their artwork can collect it on Saturday, January 24, at 3 p.m.; unclaimed pieces will be recycled.

The contest features prizes across four grade categories: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Additionally, a Community Choice Award will recognize an entry selected by popular vote. Participants must submit an official contest entry form with their artwork for consideration.

The R-Board was established in 1987 as a partnership between Stafford County and Fredericksburg. It provides waste disposal services while aiming to operate Virginia’s best-run landfill with environmentally responsible practices and an active recycling program. The landfill is located on geological formations from the Cretaceous Period and covered by sand and clay from the Potomac River during the Tertiary Period.

Stafford County Public Schools serves approximately 32,185 students across a range of educational institutions within a 280-square-mile area housing about 165,428 residents. The division comprises various schools and programs aimed at inspiring and empowering students for life post-graduation through investments in staff and high-quality education. Governed by a school board with legal authority over district operations, it is led by Superintendent Daniel W. Smith, Ed.D., guided by values such as integrity, respect, opportunity, and excellence.
