Fredericksburg City Public Schools has announced the appointment of Dr. Brendon Albon as the division’s new chief academic officer, effective December 2, 2025.

According to a news release by Fredericksburg City Public Schools, Dr. Albon brings over 25 years of leadership experience with a proven track record in developing programs and guiding high-performing teams. He is recognized for his focus on excellence and opportunity, employing servant-centered leadership to foster collaboration and create momentum across organizations. The release highlights his history of innovation and systemic improvement.

Albon previously served as assistant superintendent at the Virginia Department of Education, where he led statewide initiatives and improvement programs, including directing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and innovation efforts. He has held leadership roles in multiple school districts and regional programs. Albon holds advanced degrees from the University of Lynchburg and a bachelor’s degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His tenure will begin on December 15, 2025.

“I am incredibly excited to be joining the Fredericksburg City Schools family,” said Albon in a statement released by Fredericksburg City Public Schools. “I am particularly excited to be returning to work at the division level and hope to leverage my years of experience at the school building, division, regional, and state levels to add support to assist teaching and learning throughout the division.” Albon expressed his belief that every learner, educator, and school can grow: “I am excited to be a part of the next phase of academic growth in Fredericksburg City. I sincerely appreciate the trust afforded to me and commit to serving Fredericksburg in the best way possible for many years to come.”

Fredericksburg City Public Schools aims to provide quality education that ensures equity and opportunity for every student while emphasizing “Excellence in Education.” The district focuses on empowering students to meet high academic standards and become responsible citizens. Its principles include educational excellence, high achievement, collaboration, accountability, and global awareness. The district seeks to support student success by maintaining equitable learning environments and recruiting staff that meets student needs. School board meetings are held at the Walker-Grant Center with closed sessions at 6:30 p.m. followed by open sessions at 7:30 p.m., according to Fredericksburg City Public Schools.
