Sean Steinway, a candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, emphasized the importance of prioritizing accountability and law enforcement to ensure neighborhood safety. He made this statement on Facebook.

“Virginians are having the tough conversations our leaders won’t,” said Steinway, Candidate for Virginia House of Delegates, according to Facebook. “Josh Cole’s soft-on-crime policies have made our communities less safe — and families are paying the price. It’s time to stand up, protect our neighborhoods, and restore accountability in Richmond. Team Steinway.”

In 2024–2025, Virginia’s criminal justice debate has focused on balancing public safety with accountability. Legislators from both parties have advanced measures concerning probation reform, dangerous driving penalties, and pretrial services oversight. According to Virginia Mercury, these discussions reflect tensions between Governor Glenn Youngkin’s push for stricter sentencing and Democratic proposals that emphasize rehabilitation and transparency. These issues underscore Virginia’s ongoing recalibration of law-and-order policy within a politically divided government.

Virginia recorded 20,824 violent crimes and 405,672 total offenses in 2023. Firearms were used in 40.6% of aggravated assaults, with total property losses valued at $634.9 million. Fredericksburg mirrored similar statewide trends with marginal changes in larceny and assault incidents. The Virginia State Police Crime in Virginia – 2023 report provides these data as a benchmark for evaluating the state’s 2024–2025 public safety strategies and local enforcement efforts.

After launching “Operation Safe Summer” in 2024, Richmond experienced a 3% drop in overall violent crime along with notable decreases in homicides and shootings; however, robberies and shoplifting increased. Axios Richmond reports that this mixed pattern illustrates how targeted enforcement can reduce serious violence while opportunistic crimes fluctuate. The data also suggest that local reforms emphasizing police-community partnerships can deliver tangible safety gains.

Steinway is a Marine veteran and small-business owner running for the Virginia House of Delegates in District 65. His campaign focuses on public safety, affordability, and veterans’ advocacy. According to his official campaign website, his platform emphasizes strong law enforcement support and constitutional rights, drawing on leadership experience from military and civic service.
